Types of Anxiety Disorders

    Generalized Anxiety Disorder

    Characterized by excessive worry out of proportion with the threat and the inability to stop the worries. These worries are often related to themselves, others, and the world around them. People with Generalized Anxiety Disorder often fall into the “what if” trap and find it difficult to disrupt the thought loop.

    Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia)

    Characterized by excessive fear of social interactions and being negatively evaluated. Typically, social anxiety occurs with both physical and cognitive symptoms. People with social anxiety will often avoid situations where they will be observed.

    Panic Disorder

    Characterized by intense fear reactions that are not proportional to the level of threat the individual experiences. Over time. For some, this can lead to intense fear and worry about having panic attacks. This worry about having panic attacks that leads to changes in behaviors is called panic disorder.
