Frequently Asked Questions

How does therapy work?

Therapy provides a confidential space for individuals and couples to express and explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, working together with a trained professional to achieve their goals. The first step is understanding the goals and roadblocks to achieving them, and then finding solutions to overcome those obstacles in order to live in accordance with those goals.

What can therapy help with?

Therapy has the ability to focus on many life challenges, including struggles with depression, anxiety, trauma, personality difficulties, motivational struggles, OCD, and stress.

How long does therapy take?

Therapy timelines range in length depending on goals, motivation to change, and severity of challenges. Therapy can be time-limited and brief, typically lasting a few sessions, focusing on specific solutions and tools. In other cases, therapy can be a longer-term relationship that tackles multiple goals over months or years.

How often will I attend sessions?

For best results, therapy typically begins with weekly sessions to establish rapport and foster a therapeutic relationship. Over time, as goals are achieved, sessions will taper off to a cadence agreed upon by the therapist and client. The goal is to taper off to a level where the client no longer requires regular sessions but feels comfortable requesting an “as-needed” session if new life circumstances necessitate a refresher or additional support.

How long does each session last?

Therapy sessions are 45 minutes each. For an additional fee, longer sessions are available upon request.

What happens during the first session?

The first session serves as an intake and a chance to get comfortable with your clinician. The session focuses on understanding your history, background, who you are as an individual, and your goals for therapy. Additionally, the first session will involve a collaborative discussion about how to achieve your goals together through therapy.
